Comments: I have been a Law Enforcement Officer for 11 years. Having completed an
in-service course on Death and Related Cases months prior to the birth of my first son,
which was inclusive of information on SIDS, I have had an accute fear of SIDS.I am now
the proud father of four children and recall waking up in the middle of the night and
grabbing my kids (usually scaring them) because on this intense fear. Each of my children
endured this over their first year of their lives, because the class information given was
that SIDS did not occure after the age of one. I considder myself blessed that I escaped
this tragedy. However, on Wednesday 9-25-96, my cousin was not so lucky, losing her only
child, an 8 month old boy to SIDS.
Saturday I will escort Christopher's funeral. I find myself at a loss as to what could
be said to someone who has lost a child this way or any other way, for that matter. I can
only say that, as I went about my duties Thursday and today, I found myself peering into
every vehicle that passed containing a car seat, looked at each parent in a different
light. Thinking of how for the past 11 years, I visualized in preparation how I would
handle all types of disasters, and at the same time realizing that I could never prepare
myself for the loss of a child. My prayers and thoughts are with those of you who have had
to endure such a tragedy, and pray that those of us that havent never will. To those who
have endured, you have my most sincere admiration for your courage and strenght. I write
this in support of those who have either experienced SIDS directly or indirectly, and to
encourage those who havent to educate themselves.

Comments: My third daughter Catherine died of SIDS on February 20, 1996. She was 17
months old and I had done everything possible to prevent this type of thing. She was born
a very healthy 8 lbs. 11 oZ. and developed normally. I breast fed her and I don't smoke.
When I found her she was sleeping on her stomach but at 17 months you cannot control how
your child sleeps. We are obviously devestated by losing Catherine but have decided to try
and have another child which is a big step for us as my husband had just had a vasectomy
before Catherine died. I know it will be a scary experience being pregnant and carrying
for a little baby again but I feel this is something that we have to do not only for us
for for our other children to help in the healing process. Good luck to other SIDS parents
in learning to live with your loss. |

March 1992 at 3 and 1/2 months old. It was the worst thing that has ever happened in our
lives. We are more than 4 years down the road and have a subsequent 2 year old girl named
Hanna. She has been a God send to us. Sure it was hard her first year but the joy she has
brought us has surpassed the pain we had suffered. Hanna is born 2 years and 10 days after
her brother, Casey. Since they are both born in December, she helps ease the pain we have
at Casey's birthday. I am a peer support for the State in the San Gabriel Valley area of

was a healthy ten and a half pound 27inch baby at birth. When he died,1 day short of 4
months old,he was 35 inches long.I don't remember his weight, but he was never a fat baby.
He was just starting to sit up by himself. The day he died,my wife and I had just dropped
him off at my sisters house, she was baby-sitting. This was his first time alone away from
us. He was happy, smiling. He had just finished his bottle on the way there. When we left we
had never guessed it would be the last time we would see him smile. We weren't at the
bowling alley more than a 1/2 hour when we got a call telling us to get to the hospital
right away. This is so far the worst thing ever to happen to me in my entire life. |

tell parents who have had a SIDS baby and are scared to have more children...I am not
going to lie to you and tell you that is is easy, but,it brings such joy back into your
life. We now look forward to sharing Paige's story with her little brother Carson. He
looks at her picture and says "baby" I quess she will always be a baby to him.
Our older daughter speaks of Paige often and I know she is a better person for knowing our
beautiful angel. Please hang in there folks, there is life after a dealth of a child, it
will not ever be the same, but you will smile again and feel love in your broken heart.

in the counselling of parents and families of SIDS children presenting to our hospital. We
recently attended the SIDS conference (for professionals involved in SIDS cases) in
August, 1996, in Melbourne, Australia. It was of enourmous benefit for us as we learnt of
this Web Site then and we are extremely excited about the support that numerous
individuals can receive from this resource. Unfortunately we are not permitted to give you
our homepage address at this stage, however we will jump into the site to check out the

Comments: Bellefonte, PA. We are expecting our first child 11/21/96 and we just
wanted to find out some information to help us prevent SIDS from happening to our first
born. We were pregnant with twins and lost one very early in the pregnancy (aproximately 1
1/2 months along) There was really no reason for the loss of that baby but we just hope
that everything will be okay with this child. Our hearts go out to all of you that have
lost a child or children to SIDS after being able to hold your child and meet it. We
didn't get the chance to meet our other child but we will some day. We know it is in good
hands. |

Comments: I am located in Springfield Virginia. I am here on this site tonight
because my nine month granddaughter was delivered tonight at one week short of her
expected date of delivery stillborn. I am hurting and looking for answers. My son took his
wife to Prince William Hospital in Manassas Virginia at 8 this morning because she was in
a great deal of pain and sick. Three hours later she was allowed to leave and told that
she would probably be back within 24 hours to deliver the baby because all of the babies
vital signs were fine. Within two hours they returned to Prince william Hospital in
Manassas Virginia because the mom was very sick, throwing up and in a great deal of pain.
When they were seen by hospital personnel the baby had no heartbeat. This was at 2 pm.
When she delivered a beautiful 7# 3oz baby girl at 10:30 pm, well developed but dead, they
explained that they theorized that the placenta had torn loose from the uterus and the
baby had died from oxigen deprevation. What a terrible tragedy that a healthy beautiful
child should have not had the opportunity to enter this world alive. We can't help but
feel that something else could have been done to save this child and spared these young
parents the terrible pain of this tragic loss. If you have any thoughts or similar
experiences that may help me to help my son and daughter in law cope with this please
write me at 8605 Eagle Glen "Terrace, Fairfax Station, VA 22039 as I have no email
address. Thanks for your help and I know that you understand how I we feel right now or
you would not be on this page. Thanks for your patience as this is my way of coping right
now. God bless you. |

was Austin. He was born 8 weeks early, but healthy as could be. He gained enough weight to
come home from the hospital at four weeks and died at 6 weeks with no explaination as to
why. We are trying again now to have another but I just missed carried yesterday. We still
have our hopes up that we will have a healthy baby by this time next year. My heart goes
out to anyone who has just suffered this loss it was and still is the worst thing to go
through. But it has gotten better over time. I haven't seen much of your page yet but I
like it so far. Let us know if we can be of assistance. Sincerely, Julie & Mark. |

Oklahoma. I have chosen the topic of SIDS for a research paper because my wife and I lost
our three-month-old son this March due to a traumatic injury that doctors have not been
able to difinitively diagnose as SIDS. As I search for information, I hope to gain a
greater understanding of how traumatic injuries are related to this affliction. My deepest
sympaties are with all who may find themselves or loved ones in this terrible situation. |
