Comments: I work with families who have suffered sudden infant
deaths and find the information on the SIDS site invaluable. The people I work with do not
have access to computers or the net so I act as the information gatherer and disseminator.
I am currently assisting our recently formed support group to obtain a computer so they
can have direct contact with parents abroad. My heartfelt sympathies go to all your
parents who have lost babies and infants to SIDS. I will be happy to pass on any tips you
may have for our suppoprt group members who are aiming to fund raise to buy equipment for
our CONI (Care Of the Next Infant scheme) which I coordinate:it is available to all
parents who have had a SIDS loss and can supply them with monitoring equipment as well as

Comments: I am very compeled by your web site. I have read most
of the first person pages, and feel that i can relate to some of these people who have
been through the loss of a child. I found out that i was pregnant in May of 1997, I was so
happy. My husband and I were trying to have another child for our daughter to grow up
with. when I was 15 weeks i began to bleed, so i went to the doctor, i was so scared I
hadn't yet felt my child move, so I wanted to find out if everything was ok. I heard my
babys heartbeat, which reassured me that everything was alright. I was fine up until 28
weeks, when i started going into preterm labor, the doctors put me on all kinds of
medications. I went in on Jan.24,1998 in labor 2 weeks before my due date, the baby
heartbeat was 175-190 beats/min. The nurses began to give me oxegen, and an iv with
fluids. The doctor came in and dicided to break my water, and started me on pectosin. At
1:33 p.m Jan. 24th, i delivered a beautiful baby boy, he was so perfect, 7lbs. 10 ozs. and
20 1/2 in. long, we were doing so good they let me go home the next day. Everything was
wonderful, my daughter liked helping with her little brother, and my husband was just
glowing. We were all happy until the morning of Jan. 27th, I woke up with this felling
that something wasn't right, my maternal instinct was right, my son wasn't breathing, and
had froth coming from his nose. All I coould do was yell at my husband to wake up, he did,
and just started doing cpr, I called 911 and they sent out the ambulance, the fire rescue
truck came in and took over for my husband, when the ambulance got there they took him
straight to the hospital, so my husband and i followed. When we got there they wouldn't
let us go in, so we had to sit and waight. My certified nurse midwife came in to see how
everything was. She finally came out and told us that he didn't make it. They worked on
hime for 1hr or longer. We waited for 5 weeks for the results of the microscopic test and
autopsy came back with no more than we had already known. The final ruleing was that my
son had passed away from SIDS. I wasn't sure what that was, so I got on line to find out
what it was, thats when i found your sight. Every once in a while i come back to read what
other people have said. Its been 3 1/2 mo. I became pregnant again and was so happy to
have another child. Until May 14th, my life was back to the way it was when my son passed
away. I had a miscarriage. I'm not sure why, it just happened, i think my body wasn't
ready to go through with a pregnancy so soon. I thank you for having a web site, because i
feel that people aren't aware of these thing happening. You've done a great job thank you

Comments: My wife died suddenly and unexpectedly and with no
explanation. My research let to an explanation that included SIDS research as well. I dis
covered that certain herbal/dietary supplements taken by adults and transferred to nursing
children may cause electrolye imbalances that are never picked up because of postmortem
changes. To date, I have not found any study that looked at the mothers diet in the search
to find answers as to the cause of SIDS. Someone should at least ask the questions. If you
would like more info, please let me know. I beleive that this issue needs to be looked at.

Comments: As a EMTand a NYC Paramedic for the last 19 years, I
thought I seen and been through many tragedies. It isn't till we become part of (or knows
someone who is part of) the "statistics", that makes it so devestating. On
5/6/98, my cousin lost her first born to SIDS. He was laid to rest, 1 day before Mothers
Day. He was 8 mos. old and was perfect health. What makes it is difficult for my wife , (a
RN in an ICU) and I, is that our first born, who was born almost 10 weeks premature, had
the same original due date. To all the families who are part of the uncompehensible
statistic, May God be with you always, and help us through. |

Comments: I am drawn to this site time and time again, thought I
often leave with a heavy heart. It's a difficult weekend coming up. I lost my son 3 1/2
years ago and I think this Mother's Day is going to be more difficult than the others. I
think its because I watch my 18 month old daughter growing and changing and becoming such
a splendid little person and I wonder what my little boy would have been doing. I carried
him for 6 months and held him for less than a day. I still feel like I've missed out on so

Comments: Zane Garret Allen was born to my brother and my
sistter-in-law on 30 June 1997. He died of SIDS on 4 March 1998. I don't have the words to
express the emptiness of our world without him. He was an amazingly, wonderful little boy

Comments: I lost my precious son, Garrett Keith 16 weeks
ago(1/16/98) to the silent killer called SIDS. He was 5 months and 12 days. It is very
unfair for such a wonderful child to be taken from loving and caring parents. My husband
and I love and miss our son terribly. Since his death I have learned all I can about SIDS.
Fortunately for us, we just found out we are pregnant. I pray everyday this baby will be
delivered safe and healthy and live a long prosperous life. The only way we are going to
win over this silent killer is public information, fund raisers and alot more research.
Please, Please get the word out their and help stop this tragedy from happening to more
families. I would not wish this on my worse enemy. I would like to hear from any SIDS
parent and any parent that has had more children. I have questions on survival with the

Reaves-Margolies (January 13 - April 22, 1995, died from SIDS) will and is always in my
heart. It is still extremely hard. Since I am single, the Holidays,
"Anniversaries," etc., have more of an impact than ever. Some how, I'm still
making it day-by-day. Faith does help, I've finally come to terms with God and believe
again, THIS was the hardest "battle." I've realized that life is very
short--I've become much stronger--and still to this day I don't take ANY thing for
granted. This SITE is the BEST way (and Thank God for Family and Friends), I've been able
to deal with death of my son (also letting me know, that I am not alone). It still and
will always make me angry to see parents treat their children wrong, or taking them for
granted that they will always be there. The year my son passed: It was the weekend after
Easter (I'd taken him to Church with me) and the weekend before Mother's Day 1995. I will
never forget. The two people in my life are "gone," my Father and Son; and
myself, just being 25 years old, I feel I have aged so much (keeping in mind, age is just
a number); but in essence, I know I've become a better person. The knowledge and
experiences I've had and going through, I try to keep the "positive outlook" to
the outcome of all situations, but just like every one, I have my moments, and this is one
