Ode to Bowdrie

by Harlan Bellander

Bowdrie was born
                in mid July.
I miss you son
                why did you die?
I know you've gone
                to a better place.
But I still think
                it's a heckuva waste.
Your destiny was set
                a champ to be.
And we'd be there
                your Mommy & me.
But now you're gone
                to heaven they say.
There will be no roping
                steers to make it pay.
Bowdrie our son
                our love is true.
And we know there will
                never be another like you.

                Love, Daddy
