It was 3 years ago today that you came into our world

by Kelly Callaway

August 4, 2000

Dearest Garrett,

It was 3 years ago today that you came into our world. You were so
loved and so wanted. I think back now and can remember details of
your little face, your little fingers and those cute little toes I
use to kiss. You didn't have much hair, but you had some. You had
a little nose that was so cute. Your eyes were brown like mine and
so very deep. Looking into them you could see your soul. This day
in 1997 will always be remembered as a wonderful day in my and your
Daddy's life. He watched you come into this world and from that
moment you were bonded to us. Your
Daddy would say, "that's my boy". We are fortunate we caught it on videotape.

From the time you were born we talked about what we would give you
in life and plans we wanted for you. There wasn't a day that went
by that we didn't tell you how much you were loved. I am grateful
for that and for knowing that you only knew love in your short life.
All too soon, God saw the need to call you home. Your time on earth
was through. Although I don't understand why you were so special
and chosen to leave, I realize your purpose was so great. You
touched so many lives here on earth; people still talk about you and
the gifts you gave them. Your memories bring smiles to my heart and
yes, now to my face. I think of you often, not all the time with
sadness. There are times that I can remember the good times we had
with you and smile instead of crying. I don't feel guilty for doing
that. I know life does go on and for every season there is a
purpose.

I am glad to have been your Mommy and had the chance to love you and
yes, know you. I would never have traded our 5 months and 12 days
together for anything. I feel I am a better for being your Mommy.
In the time you have left, so many wonderful things have happened to
us and I know you are responsible for watching down upon us. I
regret you will never know your sister, but I know you hand picked
her to be our child. She doesn't replace you son; she does bring
purpose back to our lives and brings us hope everyday.

On this day, have a beautiful birthday party in heaven with all your
angel friends. You have your wings so fly my son, fly so high.
Always know you are safe in my heart and your memories will make my
heart go on*.

I love you son,
Mommy, Daddy and Avery
