Until We Meet

by Cindy Hershberger
In Memory of Stephen Lewis Hershberger
Stillborn April 16, 1996

I wrote this poem shortly after my son, Stephen, was stillborn. I submit it today, on Stephen's 2nd birthday. Thank you for your wonderful web pages. I can't begin to tell you how many hours I have poured over the stories. They have been a Godsend to me.

Until We Meet

I look into your face,
so tiny, still, and peaceful,
And see reflections
of your brother and sister there.

I hold your hand,
long nails, long wrinkled fingers,
And see a mirror of my fingers
wrapped around my own.

I see a baby, unique,
unlike any other.
A son we were looking
forward, so to greet.

I shed a tear,
for "Hello's" left, yet unspoken,
They will be saved for you
Until We Meet.
