My Angel Alexis

by Rhonda

Date: Fri, 26 Mar 1999

March 26, 1999 I remember everything that happened to me just like it was yesterday. I was only 17 when I found out that I was pregnant. I waited and waited to tell my parents-they hated my boyfriend anyway. Well, one day I came home from work around eight and my mom told me we needed to talk. I just started balling. I was so scared and didn't know what to do. Abortion or adoption wasn't even an option. After things settled down my mom scheduled me an appointment with the doctor. At that appointment the doctor confirmed that I was around 8 1/2 weeks pregnant. My mom really changed. We were all excited. My boyfriend and I just grew closer and closer and our families were great. It was probably around the first of October when I started having really bad pains in my back, so my mom and boyfriend took me to the hospital. I was diagnosed with a kidney infection. I was around 4months then (or so they thought). A kidney infection, pretty common during pregnancy right. So I wasn't real worried.

They admitted me into the hospital and a few days later diagnosed me with pneumonia. Well, then from there things just got worse. I was released from the hospital on a Sunday around noon. I got home around two and started having really bad cramping pains. I tried going to the bathroom but I couldn't pee or anything! At about three my water broke. I was so scared. My mom & boyfriend took me to the hospital. There they told me that my water broke and that my baby was going to die. My boyfriend came in the room and I can remember like yesterday how hard it was to see him in so much pain. They prepared me that I would probably go into labor soon, so they admitted me. The next day I still was having no contractions and they decided to do an ultrasound to see the baby.

Shortly after my doctor came in to tell me that my baby didn't have a heartbeat and they needed to induce labor. They told us that she was dead but my boyfriend and I niether believed them. We just knew that when the baby came out it would be fine and prove the doctors wrong. They induced labor and gave me an epidural. About 10 hours later my little girl Alexis Paige was born. She was over 5 months old (but remember the doctors said she was only 4 and 1/2 if that. She was so perfect and all there. She had 5 fingers and 5 toes, two eyes &ears, a nose and mouth. It irritates me to see kids with parents who don't want them or don't care because I did care and I graduated high school and worked- I did everything right. So why did something so wrong happen. My husband and I got married on November 21. She was buried with her pappy ed-great-great papa. The memories we have of her will never cease she was my first child and I will never forget her. My husband and I wear something around our neck to remember her by. I have a pacifier and he wears a little ring with her birthstone. Alexis your mom and dad love you You'll never be forgotten.

Love Mom
