I was looking forward to tea parties with dolls,
first birthday parties and soccer balls.
Teddy bear picnics and pink cotton dresses,
Big blue eyes and mussed up blonde tresses.
I will never see your first teeth come in,
Or see you smile when I tickle your chin.
I can only imagine what your laugh would sound like,
To watch you take your first steps or ride a bike.
I will miss seeing you off on the yellow bus,
First days of school and your first little crush.
Cheer you on when you made the team,
Comfort you when you had a bad dream.
Tell you to go and clean up your room,
Or sleep outside under the silvery moon.
I will miss reading you stories at the end of the night,
Or teach you the difference between wrong and right.
I will never see you in a tuxedo or wedding dress,
Or cuddle your children with a sweet caress.
I'm sure I will miss many others things too,
But the thing that I miss most of all is you.
