The California SIDS Program provides bereavement support services to families, childcare providers, and others affected by a SIDS tragedy. Services are available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. statewide and include crisis intervention, bereavement support, and referral to local public health professionals, SIDS parent support organizations, and community bereavement agencies. During non-business hours, holidays, and weekends, within California, a crisis intervention counselor can be reached by calling 800-369-SIDS (7437). The Program offers a variety of resources in English and other languages, dealing with SIDS, grief/loss, and reducing the risk of SIDS. These are available free of charge (within California) and include pamphlets, posters, magnets, doorknob hangers, instructional resources, handouts, and other audio-visual materials.

The Program also provides training and public awareness programs about SIDS and trains SIDS parents, family members, and childcare providers/foster parents to serve as peer counselors and support group facilitators.

The link is to a list of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) Support Groups in California. These groups offer caring and compassionate support to you and your family while coping with a SIDS death. Trained SIDS parent volunteers host bereavement support meetings throughout the year. Contact them directly for meeting dates, times, and locations.
